Sounds like maybe he won't be fighting Schaub when he comes back to the UFC, don't know how good MMA Weekly's sources are though so who knows

I'm not sure what to make of that matchup. Interesting. I can't remember if Nelson's ever been subbed.

I don't think he has

I didn't think so either. Just looked at his record, and yeah, he's never been subbed. He's good enough on the ground to avoid any threats from Werdum on the ground, i think. Then again, Roy's never fought a guy like Werdum.

Nope, he's never been subbed, and Nelson has a very underrated ground game. He is a BJJ black belt, and has submitted Frank Mir at the 2003 Grappler's Quest. Although, he doesn't use it much anymore, he still can.

With that being said, I think Werdum's BJJ and submission skills is ahead of Nelson's, and I think Werdum will take this via UD, and I believe it will go to the ground. But, Nelson does have a puncher's chance.

Awesome matchup. I'll give Werdum the edge and a decision victory. Unless we see a super lean Nelson that still has power, I think Werdum had the advantage everywhere except for wrestling.

nelson looked much better physically against cro cop than any of his other fights. it wouldn't surprise me if he pulled it off. he won't get knocked out and won't get subbed

If JDS can't finish Nelson in 3 rounds contested on the feet, what makes you think Werdum will finish him?

Cool fight.  I'm leaning towards Werdum.  Roy is a more dangerous striker, but Werdum is deceptively hard to hit, and really, Roy is a grappler first, and a striker second.  As good as Roy is on the ground, Werdum's grappling is in another class entirely.

Yeah JDS the best striker in heavyweight division and Mir the best at BJJ in the heavyweight division couldn't finish him at their own fight so I don't think Werdum will, But he will still win.

Roy Nelson wins, Fabricio Werdum is overrated. His wins aren't as impressive as his losses.

The only way I see Werdum finishing Nelson is by submission but I think Nelson could pull off a KO here, tough fight to call but I think I might be leaning towards Nelson.

i honestly see this fight ending like Werdum and Fedor.
Roy will land and Werdum will pull guard. and we will get a sub. I can see this

leaning towards Nelson, especially if he continues to look like he did against CroCop,  however, I don't think anyone would be shocked at all if Werdum were to pull off an epic sub
