Helwani announced Mein's retirement on UFC Tonight. This is disappointing to say the least. Mein put on a lot of entertaining fights against tough competition - he even debuted against Rory Macdonald!

Mein ends his career with a 29-10 and a 5-3 UFC/Strikeforce record. His father, Lee Mein is fighting next month - too bad he isn't the one retiring.

As of now Mein has not commented on his retirement. I am interested to hear from Mein what made him choose this.

What a shame. Mein had a lot of promise to be a perennial top 10 contender in welterweight too.   I hope he finds greener pastures in retirement.

40+ fights is alot, especially by the age 25 and all but 1 coming within a decade. I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing a lot more fighters at the higher levels retire before 30 years old. Probably a smart decision by Mein, can honestly say though that I didn't expect him to retire before Lee.

I think he was super skilled, technical, young, athletic. But think about his losses against Brown, Alves...He couldn't handle taking punishment. His dreams were beaten out of him.

I had 34 full contact fights and called it quits at 23. And those weren't UFC and Strikeforce fights!!!

I get it haha. Hope his body dealt with it better than mine.

I think he'll be back, just needs to take a few years off, he fought too many fights too soon.

He was looking better than ever imo. He was beating the crap outta alves iirc then got caught with that liver kick. He almost finished brown but fought his fight. Last loss before that was a split to Woodley back in strikeforce iirc. Between those were some nice wins and constant improvements. If it was his body ,it wasn't evident to me. I hope he comments on it, this is sad =/ but I also admire guy's who can walk away for physical or financial or family reasons.

And it appears he's coming back. Really, really hope this is true as Jordan was one of the most exciting, young prospects in the WW division.

Awesome news. I always thought he'd come back. I'm glad it's so soon. He fought less than 2 years ago. It was a brief retirement.

Hmmm... though I'm a Jordan Mein fan, I don't know if someone with so much wear and tear who's already retired (most likely due to brain-related health scares) should be coming back. Once you've "lost your crazy" and stated dwelling on the risks too much (a-la Rory MacDonald) the cage becomes a very bad place for you to be in.

If we get a "**** everything, I'm in it to win it" Mein back, I'd be super hyped.

I see what you mean. At least Rory seems to have found that attitude again. He seems really hyped for his Bellator career on Twitter. Dude's eager to fight for belts at 170 and 185, then have a superfight with Chandler.

I kinda figured he would come back but yeah, hopefully he's in the right shape. He'll have been gone for 2 years ish by the time he fights again so that's a decent break but maybe he should have taken more.

@dtrain, for Chandler's sake I really hope that superfight never happens. Then again, he asked for it and I don't like him so ... bring it on.

So weird, I literally googled him on Saturday because I always got him confused with Drew Dober for some strange reason. I don't blame him from taking time away from the sport, dude has almost 40 pro fights and he's barely older than I am. He's just coming back to a division full of killers, I just don't know if his mind is in the right place to make a run in the UFC right now.

I don't see why he wouldn't be as good as he was when he retired which is imo as good as he ever was.Time off to get rid of nagging injuries, get fire back assuming he lost a little, get his head straight if that even had anything to do with his retirement.Maybe he retired because he wanted an extended break and the only way to do that under his contractual obligations is to retire.

He was looking great, even in his last fight when he was beating the crap out of Thiago Alves,so I don't even really question too much if he'll be back to the top of his game,I think he will be.I know he's got 39 fights but he's still only 26,and at 26 your body can recover much better.Maybe it's mental idk, maybe he looks like ****,I think he'll come back and be top ten material again. There was no down slide in anyway that I seen before the retirement,I think he was looking better and sharper than ever.I hope they don't give him some monster for his comeback fight.

Oh, I think he'll be as good if not better, but the lingering question is what happens when he's in a dog war. It seems that the beatings he took from Brown and Alves (he was initially tuning up both of them) took a mental toll on him.

If all he needed was some time to shake of the wear and tear of 40 pro fights before the age of 30, we're in for a treat. But if he freaked out a bit about the damages of being punched repeatedly to the head he may have a lower threshold and have a short lasted comeback.
