Very unfortunate.

I was looking forward to seeing him fight Brandao later this year but I guess that'll have to wait until next year.

I think Brandao should be happy about this, Conor would run circles around him ... even if it were an exciting fight in the first (which I doubt, on account of Brandao's low fight IQ vs. Conor's total calmness and focus in the cage) I'm pretty sure that once the first was over Brandao would fade and Conor would finish him quite easy ... Brandao's got the tools to be a top echelon fighter (because Greg Jackson helps him with the low fight IQ part), but with such bad cardio I'm pretty sure he's never going to get as far as he potentially could with his mix of animalistic killer instinct, power and BJJ skills. Conor's got all the physical tools that Brandao has (and more) but what sets him apart from the pack is that his biggest strengths are exactly Brandao's weaknesses. Cardio and in-ring intelligence and coolness. Conor can adapt easily if a fight doesn't go his way (tear an ACL? no problem, wrestle and GnP a dude with solid TDD).

The problem is I have no doubt that Brandao works his cardio as much as the other guy, I think it's just a mix of his natural cardio not being high enough to start off with and not being able to pace himself properly (have I said low fight IQ yet?), so I don't really see him improving this too much.

I'd have picked Brandao. If he shows up in shape and motivated I think he's too much for McGregor. I'm not buying into this hype train. He joins the UFC beats a lower tier and middle tier fighter and calls out everyone in one of the most stacked divisions in the sport. ANY top 10 featherweight beats this guy.

@Cthulhu I agree I think McGregor is a good fighter but he is also the perfect example of Big Fish Small Pond His striking style leaves him wide open for counters. When he gets healthy i would like to see them match him up with one of the better strikers in the division (Cub or Siver) just to see if he cant take a shot.

I would pick Max Holloway to beat Brandao let alone Conor McGregor...

Also, Conor would demolish Siver. Guys like Cub, Lamas etc.. are too crafty at this moment in time but Siver is so beatable if you have the right attributes which Conor has. Siver is a ball of muscle and when he lands his shots it can be devastating but that "when" is more of an "if". He's slow and is seriously lacking in footwork, meaning an unpredictable guy with solid hands, great footwork and speed in abundance would move in and out, cut angles and pick away at Dennis with shots and when Siver slows down, catch him with something devastating. i.e Cub Swanson

Siver is a solid guy but Melvin, Cerrone and Swanson proved that if you have speed then you can render Siver helpless.

Match Conor up with Korean Zombie next since they will both be out roughly the same time for recovery.

I want to see that fight!

Gotta agree with Jaffa on Siver. The whole reason I picked Cub to annihilate him was due to the speed differential. McGregor's got the speed and speed kills. I do think McGregor's good, but Mendes, Lamas, Aldo, and Cub all destroy him. I think McGregor's got a decent chance against anybody else in the division, though I see Edgar, KZ, Poirier, and Guida as difficult opponents.

I'd like to see Conor vs a wrestler...obviously his striking is great, but could he keep guys like Mendes/Guida/Lamas/Frankie from taking him down?

that would make alot of sense for Conor  to fight a wrestler but not guys on the level of Edgar,  Lamas, Mendes or Guida yet because he's still needs some  preparation for their styles and methods of wrestling. instead he should be fighting wrestlers along the lines of Bermudez (even though he has Lentz) or  Blanco.

also with his time out with the injury he could put on weight and move up back to lightweight for a fight and then go back to featherweight after.
