Prior to a submission loss earlier this month at Invicta FC 16, Andrea Lee tested positive for a banned diuretic and has been temporarily suspended.

Invicta FC announced the news Thursday night in the form of a statement of the fighter’s positive test after Lee’s (4-2) loss to Sarah D'Alelio (9-6) in Las Vegas, which was overseen by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

“On Thursday, Invicta Fighting Championships was notified by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) that flyweight fighter Andrea Lee tested positive for the presence of prohibited diuretics in her pre-fight drug test at Invicta FC 16,” the statement read. “As a result of the positive test, Lee’s license has been temporarily suspended by NAC with a disciplinary hearing forthcoming. Invicta FC will fully cooperate with the NAC on the matter and supports Lee’s right to due process. Invicta FC consistently informs its athletes about established policies and expectations in regard to conduct, including the strictly prohibited use of performance enhancing drugs, stimulants and masking agents. This positive test represents a violation of those policies.”

Invicta FC 16 took place March 11 at Trinidad Pavilion at Tropicana Las Vegas. The card streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

In the fight with D’Alelio, Lee did good work early in the fight in the standup game, but D’Alelio turned the tide in the second round. In the third, Lee came out aggressively and eventually slammed D’Alelio to the canvas. But there, D’Alelio was able to reverse and take Lee’s back to get a rear-naked choke for the finish.

Lee on Thursday posted on her Twitter account, saying she hadn’t taken any drugs or supplements and was waiting to find out more details.

Before the loss to D’Alelio, Lee had won back-to-back fights in 2015 with armbar submissions over Rachael Ostovich at Invicta FC 14 – with two seconds left in the fight – and Ariel Beck at Legacy FC 49. Overall, she’s 2-2 under the Invicta FC banner.

Huh.  Well this is rather...unexpected.
