Delson Heleno's nickname means "Foot of Lead" in English. Nickname was given to him due his strong kicks in Capoeira.

Pé de Chumbo began his professional MMA career in June 2001 in his native Brazil. He fought sporadically over the next five years and amassed a record of 5-1.

In 2006, Pé de Chumbo had his first fights in the United States when he signed with Internatinal Fight League He was a member of the Renzo Gracie Academy team. Pé de Chumbo fought ten times for the promotion, ended with a record of 6 wins, 3 losses and 1 DQ loss.

After returning to the international circuit, Pé de Chumbo was selected as a contestant on the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil in 2012. In the elimination round, Pé de Chumbo faced Gilberto Galvão and won by decision after two rounds. After gaining entry into the house, Pé de Chumbo was selected second by coach Wanderlei Silva. In his first fight for the team, Pé de Chumbo faced Serginho Moraes. He lost the fight via rear-naked choke submission in the first round.

Despite not making it to the finals, Pé de Chumbo was offered a fight at UFC 147 on June 27, 2012. He faced fellow cast member Francisco "Massaranduba" Trinaldo and lost the fight via TKO in the first round.
