Wiki

Guan Wang Wiki

Wang’s original interest in martial arts was grounded in a mixture of the old and the new: the Shenyang native cites Shaolin Kung Fu, martial arts movies, and Bruce Lee as the inspirations that drove him to begin training in traditional Chinese martial arts at the age of 13. However, it wasn’t long before he realized that forms-based training didn’t suit his more aggressive, competitive style, and he soon made the transition to Sanda. In 2002, at the age of 16, he made the decision to dedicate his life to combat sports, moving to Xian to study under China’s godfather of MMA, Zhao Xue Jun. Since then, he has won numerous national championships in Sanda, Muay Thai, and Kickboxing. In 2006, he crossed over into MMA, and in his first year of competition, won four of his first five fights by first round stoppage.
